A. Teaching Experience

Thirty nine years at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels (All in Pune University Department of English and affiliated Colleges)

B. Research Work

Successfully guided thirty six Ph. D. and forty two M. Phil. students in Pune University. (The topics range from English Language Teaching to Natural Language Processing) Successfully guided four engineering students on Document Archival and Retrieval with Smart Search in Educational Domain Completed two research projects in Sociolinguistics under the UGC Scheme

C. Participation in Conferences

Participated in thirty nine International and one hundred and twenty National Conferences (made a notable contribution through keynote, inaugural & valedictory addresses, panel discussions and chairing technical sessions)

D. Publications

Published seven reference books and six textbooks prescribed in several universities at the UG and PG levels. Three reference books are widely read and referred to within and outside India.

Published thirty nine research papers in international journals

E. International Visits

Visited the UK, USA, Canada, Spain, South Korea, Thailand, Germany, France and Switzerland for making presentations in conferences and for giving invited lectures and speeches

Administrative Experience

Twenty two years’ experience as Principal of reputed colleges in Pune (successfully completed the procedure for assessment and accreditation and secured substantial UGC grants)

Established Institute of Advanced Studies in English (affiliated to and recognized by the University of Pune) that has come to be known as a reputed center for advanced studies in English attracting students from different parts of India and abroad)

Worked as the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Fine Arts and Performing Arts in Pune University for eleven years Worked on almost all the statutory bodies and committees in Pune University either as a member or Chairman (Drafted the present Ph D Rules and Perspective Plan of Pune University for 2002-07)

Extension Activities

Organized  seven International, three Winter Schools in Digital Humanities, four National and several state/university level conferences (earned the reputation of being the only Indian organizer of conferences on Pragmatics)

Gave more than 400 lectures/workshops across the country in UGC Refresher and Orientation Programs

Made over forty presentations on different aspects of higher education on prestigious occasions (like memorial lecture series, centenary, diamond or silver jubilee celebrations of academic institutions)

Have been playing the central role in syllabus revision and restructuring in Pune University for twenty eight years.

Designed and executed Teacher Enrichment Program for schoolteachers teaching English in Marathi medium schools. (By now, about 5000 teachers participated from all over Maharashtra)

Developed, with the help of colleagues, the Program called ENGLISH FOR ALL @ MY INCUBATION CENTER. Centers are being launched all over Maharashtra.

Arranged in Pune more than 25 speeches of internationally known, distinguished educationist and linguists from India and abroad

  • Nominated as a member of the advisory Board of the Journal of Pragmatics and Society published by John Benjamin from Amsterdam, The Netherlands
  • The only Indian invited to contribute a paper in the Jacob Mey Festschrift Volume (Professor Mey is the senior most and leading pragmaticist from the US)
  • Working as a reviewer for the Journal of Indian Studies published by Korean Society for Indian Studies
  • Founder-Editor of two International Journals, namely, Asian Journal of English Studies and Asian Quarterly, that has completed seventeen years and has been approved by the UGC.
  • Delivered nine speeches as invited guest in different universities in South Korea and Thailand
  • Maintained an excellent rapport with leading pragmaticists all over the world

National level

  • Nominated as UGC expert member on the committee for assessing XI Plan College Development Proposals for Gujarat University
  • Nominated by the UGC as an expert member (for South Regional Office and Western Regional Office) for evaluating the proposals, for research projects and conferences in English
  • Participated as an invitee in the interactive session with the Yash Pal Committee, appointed by the MHRD, Government of India
  • Nominated as a member of the selection committees (for selecting professors and assistant professors) for Central Agricultural Universities in the North Eastern States and by the Governor of UP
  • Nominated as an expert member on various bodies in the universities like, Pune, Mumbai, Shivaji, North Maharashtra, Swami Ramananda Teerth, Solapur, Bharati, Deccan College Deemed University and Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University
  • Regularly invited as a Resource Person for national and international conferences and for the UGC Sponsored Refresher Courses in different parts of India
  • Recipient of some prestigious awards at the state and national level, mainly Pune Municipal Corporation Best Teacher Award, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar National Fellowship and NSUI Ideal teacher Award
  • Short listed and interviewed by the Scrutiny Committee appointed for recommending the suitable names for the appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of BAMU, Aurangabad
