IASE: History

After securing the State Government permission and affiliation from the University of Pune, the IASE was established in the academic year 2003-04. Making a modest beginning with 53 students, gradually it emerged into a reputed center of post-graduate teaching and research attracting students from more than twenty countries and from all the Indian States. It soon achieved the maximum intake capacity of 230 students enrolled for M.A., M. Phil. and Ph. D. in English.

Right from the beginning, the examination results and the placement have been consistently more than 90%. Most of the alumni are well placed in different countries, drawing attractive packages. Since 2003-04, the IASE has invariably distinguished itself among all the Post-graduate centers affiliated to the University of Pune, for having maximum number of students securing first class in the M. A. final examinations. Similarly, we are the only research center that has successfully guided an impressive number of research students, with 112 Ph Ds and 124 M Phils till 2016. IASE publishes two peer-reviewed International Journals, namely Asian Quarterly and Asian Journal of English Studies. Both are published quarterly and are circulated in several countries. The first journal has successfully completed fourteen years and the second, six years. The journals provide a ready platform for the institute students and scholars at large to publish their original research work.

IASE also had fruitful collaborations with several institutes in and outside Maharashtra. During the academic years 2006-07 and 2007-08, we designed and executed One-Semester Course in Communication Skills in English for the B Tech students of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pashan, Pune. During the year 2008-09, a Certificate Course in Communication Skills in English was organized for the students of Sarda College, Ahmednagar. Teacher Enrichment Program, launched in 2003-04 is one of the most fruitful programs regularly conducted by the IASE for school teachers teaching English. So far, more than 5000 school teachers from different parts of India have been trained by the Institute under this program.

In addition, the Institute organized several workshops on NET/SET in English, workshops and seminars on the textbooks and syllabi prescribed by the University of Pune. The IASE also organized a one week Orientation Program for School Teachers from Al Jamea Tus Sasifiyah Arabic Academy, Surat in the year 2007-08 and 2014-15.
